Advice Support Project

The Advice & Representation Project works with organisations funded by London Councils to develop the welfare rights advice and representation skills of advisers.

Who uses the Advice Support Project?

We can help organisations who are funded by London Councils to deliver an advice service.

What we offer

The project aims to improve and enhance the advice and representation skills of advisers by offering a range of support activities, including:

  • Mentor assistance with casework
  • Convening a quarterly advice forum
  • Specialist training courses

London Advice Support Forum

The next London Advice Support Forum meeting will be on Wednesday 10th March, at 2pm prompt, at the Resource Centre, .356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA. (nearest tube: Holloway Road).

The Advice Support Forum meets quarterly, bringing together welfare rights advisors from voluntary sector organisations across London working with different client communities, and will enable them to share, learn and develop their welfare benefits advice and representation skills and knowledge by learning from each other.  We will cover the following two themes at the next forum:

1)     Mental Health and Employment & Support Allowance: discussion led by Emma Mamo, the Senior Policy and Campaigns Officer from MIND

2)     Right to Reside: discussion led by Essie Rashidschi, specialist welfare rights advisor, who trains for Lasa and CPAG on this subject.

If you are interested in learning more about Employment & Support Allowance or the Right to Reside Test, or have case examples or experience you would like to share on these subjects, then it is well worth you attending this next forum.

If you are a welfare benefits advice worker working for a London agency and you are interested in attending, or want more information about the forum, please telephone David Samson on 020 7426 4482 or e-mail dsamson@lasa.org.uk.
