16/09/2009 – LSC publishes revised Quality Marks for 2010 contracts

The Legal Services Commission (LSC) has today published revised Specialist and Mediation Quality Marks for 2010 contracts.

Amongst the key changes is the transfer of the supervisor legal competence standards to the contract which, the LSC says, reflects the importance of supervision to the delivery of a quality service to the client.

In addition the new Quality Marks -

  • remove redundant areas and update terminology;
  • promote equality by including a new E and D standard; and
  • will be awarded to a firm, not an office, so the Specialist Quality Mark will no longer be legal aid or category specific.

The changes, the LSC says, align the standards with the LSC contract from 2010; allows it to accept Lexcel as an alternative to the Specialist Quality Mark for 2010 onwards; and is a first step towards outsourcing the Specialist Quality Mark from late 2010.
