24/08/2009 – New Partnership between Lasa and Migrants Resources Centre
At a meeting between Lasa and Migrants Resource Centre on 11th August, the two organisations agreed to work together on the framework of Bridge - IT: Thematic Network, ICT for social integration and cultural diversity. The main goal of the Bridge IT thematic network will be to identify good practice and prepare tools for promoting cultural diversity and social integration by the partner organisations and then ensure their replication and dissemination throughout Europe. The project will actually focus on three sub themes:
- early education and life long learning in a multicultural Europe.
- employability of immigrants and their participation in the economy.
- empowerment of civil society and creation of social capital.
Since the start of this European transnational project, which consists of 23 members across the continent, Lasa has been the sole member from United Kingdom. In our work with Bridge IT we have so far focused on our Multikulti project but there are other aspects of Lasa's work that are also relevant to social integration and cultural diversity. We are also aware of a plethora of good practice in this area that has been developed by a wide range of organisations in the UK and we will seek to represent this more widely through the transnational partnership.
The new partnership between Lasa and MRC, provides better opportunities for both organisations to work on a wider and deeper scale for social inclusion and cultural diversity.
