11/11/2009 – Lasa’s press response to the latest unemployment figures

Andy Gregg, chief executive of Lasa (London Advice Services Alliance) on the latest monthly unemployment figures:

"With the latest monthly unemployment figures released today, it's once again reminded me of the people who are suffering and are unaware of their rights and the benefits that they are entitled to.

As a charity who has provided support services to the advice sector for more the 25 years, we strongly recommend people who need help to seek advice from their local advice workers, for example, from Citizens' Advice Bureau, or other independent advice agencies.  The benefits system can be very complex, and often the only way to understand it is to speak to expert advice workers who would only be too happy to help.

We offer resources and training to our colleagues in the advice sector, so that they can solve their clients' welfare benefits problems, and we would encourage people who want to know if they are entitled to benefits to ask when they need help."
