24/11/2011 – Lasa Technology Surgeries Provide sector with practical help
Lasa's second annual Technology Surgery Day gathered together nine eminent technology “surgeons” who gave exclusive one to one advice and information on a wide range of technology issues to third sector organisations. Sessions ran for the whole day and covered websites, cloud technology, databases, open source software, email marketing, networks and security to social media.
Paul Lam-Kilama, interim manager of Network for Regeneration and Development took part in five surgeries and said he had "benefitted immensely" from the one-to-one expert advice. Stony Grunow of Thirdsector IT said he had volunteered as an opportunity to "Help charities in any way possible."
One participant was particularly pleased with their advice because it gave them a "step by step plan of how to tackle the problems we are experiencing with our network and conflict between IT suppliers. Plus pointers to cost savings which would sweeten the pill for the Board when they have to make decisions on the IT systems."
Another said, "More than anything it helped me clarify some of the issues I'll need to look at in more detail in order to consolidate the strategic and operational next stage of the comms strategy I'm delivering"
Sue Fidler, ThirdsectorIT's Stony Grunow, Paul Webster of Learning Pool, Paul Graham of Fossbox, Marcus Appleton of CTT, Yaarub Aisa of Superhighways and Phil Woodall of Lasa very generously gave of their time to help with the surgeries. Lasa was also very happy to welcome Katie McPhee from online event management serrvice, Eventbrite, as a 'technology surgeon'. Katie heads up Eventbrite's new presence in the UK. Charity Technology Trust very kindly supplied the venue for the surgeries.
The surgery day ran as a prelude to Lasa's Not-for-Profit Technology conference on 14 November at IBM's prestigious South Bank venue.
