London ChangeUp ICT Project

What Will Frontline Organisations Get Out of the Project?

The project is doing two types of work:

  • Strategic Development
Setting up Circuit Rider projects in boroughs across London, to start in April 2006
  • Service Delivery
Providing some ICT support for voluntary organisations now

The most important of these is Strategic Development. ChangeUp funding gives us the opportunity to plan coordinated ICT support projects across London, build a consensus in support of our plans, and then approach funders to support this work. Our goal is for sustainable ICT support projects to exist in every borough from spring 2006. We feel this is a better use of funding than proving ICT support to more organisations now - only to have that support end after March 2006. In any case, ChangeUp is meant to support strategic development - we simply wouldn't have got funding if we had proposed spending all the money on support.

The project also includes elements of Service Delivery. We realise that frontline organisations need ICT support as soon as possible, and don't want to wait till next year, so we're starting to provide some services now. We also want to test out different ways of providing ICT support to see what works in different areas with different needs, and this gives us a chance to do this.

The Service Delivery elements include:

  • signposting to let organisations know which ICT services exist already
  • borough-level ICT forums so groups can generalise best practice and support each other, through meeting in person and/or by email
  • projects in each subregion to provide direct help for a small number of organisations
