Circuit
Rider Training and Quality Standards
Lasa has gained funding as part of the ICT Hub to
continue our Circuit Rider development work - including
developing training and quality standards for Riders.
Lasa is working with the UK Circuit Rider community to
develop training and a set of standards in order to:
- provide quality, reassurance and safeguards to the
VCS organisations with which we work;
- maintain and enhance the values of the sector;
- raise the profile of Circuit Riders and Circuit
Riding; and
- provide VCS organisations with independent advice and
not champion any particular solution.
This process is
now underway with a stakeholder event as part of the feasibility study
having taken place on 17th July
at NCVO in
London which examined:
- the principles by which Riders work;
- ICT
standards which organisations could aspire to;
- the skills required for
a Rider to assist organisations to achieve those standards;
- feedback on commissioned researchfrom ADP
Consultancy and Summit Collaborative; and
- possible scenarios for training and mentoring Riders.
Notes from the
meeting along with presentations are now available to download:
Lasa has analysed the outcomes of the meeting and is
planning the way forward. Our top priorities included:
- publishing an updated list of circuit rider
principles (see below);
- updating and seeking consultation on a set of ICT
standards for organisations upon which to build a skill-set for Riders;
and
- establishing a training path for Riders based on
peer exchange, collaborative online resources, mentoring and
partnership;
- setting up an advisory group to steer the process
over the next months.
Since then the advisory group has been set up and
conists of the following people:
The Project team is Paul Allen and Ian Runeckles, Lasa
and Marc Osten, Summit Collaborative.
The group had
its initial meeting in early November. The meeting considered
the
updated principles along with the benchmark ICT standards which are
being prepared currently and a draft "logic model" which outlines the
outcomes we expect to work to and indicators of success.
The Principles of a Circuit Rider have now been
published - see www.lasa.org.uk/circuitriders/principles.shtml
- and a list of those signing up to accept the
Principles is now online at www.lasa.org.uk/circuitriders/signatories.shtml
