LASA aims software

What will AIMS do?

The system enables advice and information providers to collect data relating to their service users, capturing details for social policy and reporting purposes, as well as offering a range of integrated functions designed to assist workers with their casework management.

The system provides a number of features designed to offer practical help and assistance in the delivery of quality assured services. These features include; Diary & Room Booking, Key Date and Action reminders, MailMerge, a referrals database and lots more.

AIMS offers agencies the opportunity to customise the system so that the software matches their preferred working practices and style of service delivery. For instance, the system will allow agencies to create a new coding classification scheme, or to select and adapt a predefined configuration.

AIMS is available as two separate applications, offering different levels of functionality. These are: AIMS Core and AIMS Extra. For more information see Which AIMS application is right for you? below. For an extra cost it is possible to upgrade from AIMS Core to AIMS Extra at any time.

AIMS is also available in Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server and Firebird SQL Server versions. For more information see Which version of AIMS is right for you? below.

Which AIMS Application is right for you?

AIMS Core provides:

  • Capture of individual client details
  • Contact and problem counts
  • User information and client profiling
  • Letter and form generation to assist with case management (Client mail merge)
  • Work details and outcome monitoring
  • Suite of standard and ad-hoc reports.

The AIMS core system provides agencies with the ability to report on the work of the agency to a high level of detail. The information available will provide key data for social policy analysis as well as helping you provide facts and figures for future funding applications.

Agencies requiring features such as the diary or action manager should get AIMS Extra.

AIMS Extra provides:

All the features of AIMS Core plus:

  • Agency configurable templates for "next action" lists with built in reminders (Action Manager)
  • Individual and team diaries
  • Mailing list creation (Merge Suite)
  • Detailed financial reporting, multiple outcome monitoring and lots more.

Which Version of AIMS is right for you?

AIMS is available in Microsoft Access (AIMS Access), Firebird SQL Server (AIMS Firebird) and Microsoft SQL Server (AIMS MS SQL) versions.

AIMS Access

The Microsoft Access version of AIMS is intended for use on a standalone machine, or in a multi user Local Area Network (client / server) environment with relatively light usage, i.e. up to 15 users needing access to the database at the same time.

Licensing of AIMS Access is per site. If you have several offices or sites where data will be entered into AIMS, each office or site will need to purchase a copy of AIMS and a support contract.

If you wish to use AIMS in a busy network environment where more than 15 users need access to the database at the same time, or if users need to use AIMS over a Wide Area Network (e.g. from multiple offices on different sites, remote access from home etc.), you will need to purchase AIMS Firebird or AIMS MS SQL.

AIMS Firebird

AIMS Firebird runs on the open source Firebird client / server relational database management system. AIMS Firebird is intended for use in busy networked environments with more than 15 users needing access to the database at the same time, and / or where AIMS needs to be accessed over a Wide Area Network (e.g. from multiple offices on different sites, remote access from home etc.).

Multiple sites need only purchase one copy of AIMS Firebird and a support contract for the appropriate number of users.

AIMS MS SQL

AIMS MS SQL runs on the Microsoft SQL Server client/server relational database management system. AIMS MS SQL is intended for use in busy networked environments with more than 15 users needing access to the database at the same time, and / or where AIMS needs to be accessed over a Wide Area Network (e.g. from multiple offices on different sites, remote access from home etc.).

Multiple sites need only purchase one copy of AIMS MS SQL and a support contract for the appropriate number of users.

An appropriately licensed copy of Microsoft SQL Server is also required to run AIMS MS SQL. If you do not already have a copy of MS SQL Server you may wish to consider using AIMS Firebird (see above). Otherwise you will need to separately purchase Microsoft SQL Server and licenses from a software supplier.

Charity organisations may be able to purchase software and licenses at a discount from specialist software suppliers (see Charity Software Suppliers on the Knowledgebase for more information).
